FOPPI Tours the Kewaunee Lighthouse

Updated: May 3

FOPPI held our quarterly board meeting at the Kewaunee County Historical Society on April 20th. After the meeting, we braved the cold and took a tour of the Kewaunee Pierhead Lighthouse with their friends’ group Vice-President, Jake Heffernan. Jake also volunteers with FOPPI.

The Kewaunee Lighthouse was built in 1912 to guide railroad carferries and other ships in and out of the harbor. The lighthouse was automated in 1981 and transferred to the City of Kewaunee in 2011.

In 2015 a Friends group was established to help preserve and restore this historic light that guided mariners through the harbor for more than 100 years.
