FOPPI Vice-President
The board of directors for the Friends of Plum & Pilot Islands is looking for a vice-president to help further our mission. For more information, use the button above.
M/V The Shoreline Director
We are looking for a business savvy volunteer to oversee the operation of our boat, The Shoreline. This person would oversee all aspects of the boat operation and direct the volunteers managing aspects including: maintenance, crew training and scheduling, marketing, drug testing. Please reach out with additional questions.
M/V The Shoreline Deckhand
The Shoreline is a Coast Guard Inspected Passenger Vessel, meaning that the Coast Guard has certain crew member requirements. The Shoreline is classified as a ‘smaller passenger vessel’ so the Coast Guard is not as particular, or require as many things, as on larger ships. The Lead Captain does the crew training. Members of the crew must be enrolled in the company's (FOPPI) drug test program and willing to submit a sample if called for a random test. There is no cost to the crew member, FOPPI pays for the tests. Each crew member also should be aware of the safety features on the boat and be prepared to assist in an emergency such as man overboard, fire or rough weather. They also should be able to pilot (drive) the boat back to safe harbor, not necessarily dock it but get it back to a harbor, wall, or marina. Crew should also know how to operate one of the VHF radios on channel 16. The crew member assists the captain in docking by putting out fenders (bumpers) and having lines ready. The crew will assist the captain in pre-trip cleaning and putting out cushions as well as after trip cleaning and putting things away. The crew should be familiar with the highlights of the route, historical facts, navigational history, wildlife and birds and general information of Plum and Pilot Islands, Death’s Door, FOPPI and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. There is information on the boat that the crew can use, as well as outlines on the highlights of the tour route.
