We are excited to announce that 10 interpretive panels are now in production and will be shipped to the Horicon National Wildlife Refuge at the end of February for installation on Plum Island during the 2026 season.

The panels were a team effort between the dedicated USFWS staff and FOPPI volunteers. The panels will provide a guide for visitors to Plum Island to learn about why this island's history is so important to preserve.

The panels are:

  • Overview / Welcome

  • Boathouse

  • Crew's Quarters

  • Pilot Island View

  • Pilot Island Story

  • Keeper's Quarters

  • Rear Range Light

  • Fog Signal Building

  • Front Range Light

  • Porte des Morts Ruins

The Overview panel provides the visitor with a map of where to locate each panel.

A USFWS archeologist will be present when installing the panel stands to assure that, should we uncover any Native American artifacts, that they are repatriated per the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA).

We plan to host a ribbon cutting ceremony and you're invited to join us!
