What drives our need to “check the box”?

Psychologists call it completionism — a trait closely linked to a desire for mastery, order, and a sense of control. It’s often associated with something called the Zeigarnik Effect, which suggests that people remember uncompleted tasks more than completed ones. That lingering feeling of “not yet done” creates a subtle itch that can only be scratched by… one more visit, one more picture, one more X on the map.

And you know what? That’s not a bad thing. It's a way to bring purpose to your travels ... the personal challenge, joy in the moment and satisfaction of seeing it through.

We offer you three ways to 'check the box': Door County Heritage Trail Pass, US Lighthouse Society Passports, and the US Fish & Wildlife Blue Goose Passport. The lighthouse and blue goose passports can be purchased through our store, by clicking here.

Each refuge was established for its importance to wildlife.

Refuges also play a vital role in the survival of endangered plants and animals.
