For more than 150 years, brave men and women have been serving as the “Guardians of Death’s Door”, watching over sailors and their vessels navigating the treacherous waters and unpredictable currents in the narrow passage that connects Green Bay with Lake Michigan. The Friends of Plum and Pilot Islands (FOPPI) are now working to preserve the stories of these dedicated individuals and restore the historic 19th-century maritime structures found on these remote outposts.
